“From my long experience as an Addl. Director General in the Department of Fire & Emergency Services, Government of West Bengal, I have observed that due to ever increasing construction of different industries of high fire potential and sophisticated high rise buildings of different industries, the demand of skilled, well educated and properly trained fire personnel are also increasing day by day in establishing and maintaining fire fighting and fire safety arrangement, in the Government sectors as well as non-government organizations. But owing to non-availability of suitable training institute based on Indian standard and in the language of a fireman, the youth of different areas associated with fire and life safety arrangements are facing real difficulties in understanding fire science & engineering and Disaster Management. At present, they are, to a great extent, dependent on a few Institutes. The need of an Institute on the subject of fire safety & Disaster Management has been felt for a long time.
